Jody Weber, Lucy Kim, Stacey Gabriel Ph.D., and Ashlee Earl Ph.D.
Thursday, March 14th, 2019, 7-8 pm
Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, 415 Main Street, Cambridge, MA
Gathered together for a conversation during Women’s History Month, these women represent a broad range of both art and science practices. The program began with five-minute pecha kucha style introductions. The speakers then shared with each other and the audience their respective thoughts on the relationship between art and science, and how and if that affects their own thinking and projects. In spite of the ambition of the evening, this promised to be an intimate event. Co-sponsored by Women @ Broad. Pi day pie reception to follow!
The Speakers:
Choreographer, Jody Weber
Current Broad Institute artist in residence, Lucy Kim
Senior Director of the Genomics Platform, Institute Scientist, Stacey Gabriel, Ph.D.
Research Scientist, Senior Group Leader, Institute Scientist Ashlee Earl, Ph.D.
Companion podcast episode with Debra Wise and Lee Mikeska Gardner
Debra Wise and Lee Mikeska Gardner, of the Underground Railway Theater and The Nora Theatre Company respectively are actors and directors and are engaged with both art and science in their theater work, by way of their involvement with Catalyst Collaborative @ MIT. “Each season, URT or The Nora produces at least one play that opens the door between art and science and pushes us to expand our vision of the future, framed by real-time encounters with scientists who are changing our world.”
